Ephesus Bee Pendant
Inspired by fourth-century BC coinage from ancient Ephesus, these pendants celebrate the honey bee, one of the most enduring symbols of Artemis Ephesia and the ancient city of Ephesus. The honey bee appears throughout the goddess's iconography, adorning her statues and appearing among the votive offerings dedicated at the Artemision.
Rather than creating a literal copy of the historic coin, I wanted to capture a sense of movement by allowing the bee to extend its wings beyond the circular border, as though preparing to return to the goddess herself.
For me, this pendant is more than a reinterpretation of an ancient coin, but a contemporary amulet carrying forward one of the most enduring symbols of the ancient Mediterranean.
Each pendant is individually handcrafted in sterling silver, available in a variety of finishes, and is fully UK hallmarked with my maker's mark.
