I work across jewellery, metalwork, wood carving, modelling and sculpture, selecting materials and techniques according to the character of each piece. Traditional hand skills remain central to my practice, although drawing, photography, model-making and digital processes may also form part of the development of a design.
My work begins in different ways. It may grow from a particular material, an historic object, a piece of folklore, an archaeological site or an image that has remained in my imagination. Research and making develop alongside one another, with each helping to shape the other.
I am interested in the point at which an object becomes more than simply decorative or functional: when its materials, imagery and associations give it a sense of presence. Whether making a piece of jewellery, a carved mirror or a ritual-inspired sculpture, I aim to create objects that feel as though they carry their own histories, meanings and possibilities.
This section features one-off objects, experimental works and pieces that do not belong to a larger collection. Some represent the beginning of a new direction, while others are individual explorations of a material, technique or idea.
